19 Aug The best pasta sauce
Welcome back to Sandtondiet and to the recipe for the only pasta sauce that you will ever need.
I have been asked for this recipe by quite a few people so I thought I would share it with you all today. This recipe is incredibly simple but it is seriously delicious. My kids refer to it as red sauce and it is one of their favourite things to have on pasta.
To make the sauce you start off by sautéing an onion in a bit of oil. It can either be olive oil or a neutral , oil like canola oil. The trick to making this sauce go from average to superb is this step. So make sure not to skip this part. It is also quite important to sauté the onion until there is a bit of caramelization on the onions because this is what gives the sauce the flavour. For those of you that don’t love the kitchen this just means that you need to make sure that there are some brown bits on the onions before you add the tomatoes.
The next step as I just said is to add the tomatoes. I use canned tomatoes that are already flavoured with basil, oregano and garlic. It doesn’t really matter what brand you use. They all taste pretty similar in the end. I often add extra garlic and extra garlic and herb seasoning to ramp up the flavour of the sauce. If I am using this sauce that needs a slightly thicker sauce then I add grated carrots now to thicken up the sauce. I use this for example when I am making my tuna lasagne recipe and the thicker sauce is needed.
This sauce is incredibly versatile and also goes by the name of nepoletana sauce or marinara sauce depending where in the world you are. I make this sauce very often! It can be used on a variety of pasta dishes, meat balls, lasagne and chicken. It’s also useful to make this sauce in large batches and then freeze some of it so that I have a easy meal ready and waiting to be assembled.
I have some other really easy pasta dishes on my website that are sure to delight. I make this skinny tuna lasagne recipe often. It uses the pasta sauce recipe that is posted in this blog article and is delicious. It is not as fatty or rich as regular tuna lasagne recipes because it doesn’t use a white sauce in the recipe. Give it a try, it is a real family favourite in my home. This tuna pasta bake recipe is also a must. It also uses the pasta recipe as the base and is a real crowd pleaser.
I hope that you enjoy today’s recipe. I would love to see pictures of the dishes that you make with this sauce. Until next time, Leanne xoxo
