Seared sweet chilli tofu

This seared sweet chilli recipe is an absolute delight. With the soft texture of the tofu, the delicious bite of the sweet chilli sauce and the sear on the outside of the tofu this made for a really delicious bite of food.

A lot of people complain that they find tofu so boring and bland. I have also heard people say that they really don’t know how to cook tofu. The secret is in marinating the tofu. Tofu on its own can be quite bland but it takes on any flavours that it’s marinated it exceptionally well. So when you are cooking tofu the trick is to remember to pack it with flavour first.

You can use many flavours to cook with tofu such as soy sauce, ginger and garlic to name a few. Sweet chilli sauce also works beautifully with the tofu because the tofu really takes on the flavour of the sweet chilli sauce.

There are many ways to serve this seared sweet chilli tofu but I chose to use in a poke bowl with sushi rice and vegetables (recipe will be posted soon) and it was a bowl full of nutritious yumminess.

Seared sweet chilli tofu

 

400g firm tofu

3 Tbsp sweet chilli sauce

2 tsp sesame oil

 

Method

  1. Cut the block of tofu into thick slices and put them into a bowl
  2. Slather the slices of tofu with the sweet chilli sauce
  3. Allow the tofu slices to marinade for a while in the swet chilli sauce
  4. Next add the sesame oil to a pan and it up to prepare to sear the tofu
  5. Once the oil is hot add the tofu slices to the pan and cook for 4 – 5 minutes per side or until nicely charred
  6. When the tofu is cooked remove it from the pan and enjoy!
